Organizations invest heavily into their reputation as the basis of their success. Whether this is the trust and respect developed internally amongst staff, where partners and subcontractors are contracted to support organizational goals and activities, or where funding sources engage knowing that the organization they invest in bring high levels of trust and integrity. Reputation is often hard won, but it is also very easily lost. Part of an organization’s resiliency strategy is to create an environment where the ethical standards are clearly defined and appropriately articulated to all stakeholders. These standards and practices are codified through policies, plans and protocols; and they are operationalized through briefings and training. Where a perceived or confirmed breach of these standards or practices occur then it is how the organization responds which will often determine how impactful and far reaching the effects are of an incident. Whether a fraud and corruption incident, or where an abuse of power and position occurs, the need to set high standards, and to maintain them, defines the professionalism and integrity of the leadership team and the organization they represent. It demonstrates sound resiliency, empowering organizational incident and emergency response measures and associated plans.
