BC066_English: Resilience and the Art of Influencing Decisions
The ability to influence decision makers is an art and requires not only expertise and experience within the influencer’s field, but also the ability to have a basic understanding of how other decision makers think, operate and work – as well as being able to converse confidently, and with a degree of eloquence, in their language. Understanding the needs, priorities and fears of others will not only influence how an argument or need is articulated within a stakeholder group, but it may also shape how the influencer themselves tackle a problem or requirement. The outcomes of any action should meet the collective needs of the team and the higher needs of the organization, and the presentation of a need or solution should take into account the goal to – ideally – reflect the needs of others within the approach and end state outcome.
