Serious disease outbreaks can have serious psychological as well as health risks to those within an affected area. Pandemics can also present secondary security challenges as travel restrictions are enforced, the availability of foods and goods is impacted, as where rule of law and services are undermined. By understanding the primary and secondary risks associated with a pandemic, and by having self-help measures by which to reduce the chance of infection, then individuals, groups, projects or locations and whole organizations can better plan for, respond to, and manage the safety, security and business risks of a serious disease outbreak.
