Suspect letters, boxes, bags or vehicles may present an explosive hazard as criminals, individuals with mental health problems, or terrorist groups target a person, location, area or group. It is important for people to be able to identify and respond to suspect devices, and to identify possible chemical or biological hazards which may be part of the attack. By understanding the different forms of explosive risks, the danger distances for different sized improvised explosive devices, how to identify a potential bomb threat, and the immediate steps which should – and critically should not – be taken, then the response will significantly reduce risks to people, facilities, assets and business operations.
