SM029_English: Managing Risk associated with attending Rallies and Demonstrations

For those organizations who by virtue of their nature send staff to participate in large scale gatherings, demonstrations or rallies, then risk management must be an integral part of the planning process. Agitators may create conflict and physical risk, and police responses may be heavy handed and indiscriminate in nature. As such, people, as well as the interests of the organization, may be placed at serious risk. By understanding the risks then management teams can establish effective planning measures to ensure that people are kept safe, understand how to identify a risk before it becomes an emergency, and know how to react to a threat as it unfolds. Managers will also then be concurrently implementing pre-defined response protocols as a threat emerges or occurs to control risks.
