It is important for off-site activities involving minors and youths to have a sensible and appropriate degree of risk planning included during the preparation phase so that the organization, and those leading the activity itself, map, define and manages likely risks. The Trip Team Leader, leading both other adults supportive of the activity, as well as the young people involved as participants, can break the activity into three stages to aid with the planning and conduct of a safe and productive activity; the prepare and prevent stage where the risks are mapped and addressed, and where roles, responsibilities and resources are put into place to ensure the safety and security of young people; the implementation of the activity where safety and security is front of brain, and where the Trip Team Leader allocates responsibilities out to other adults supporting the activity; and then the effective, timely and confident response to any incident which might occur, ensuring the physical and psychological security, safety and wellbeing of the young people as a first priority.
