Ransomware attacks can be devastating and can interrupt or derail business and operational activities as criminals or hostile governments impede or prevent access to information and communication systems. Ransomware attacks allow criminals to take ownership of data storage and communication systems, with payments being made by the victim for the systems to be ‘released’ from unauthorized control. Ransom payments are often made through crypto currency and may range from tens of thousands to millions of dollars.
