GFiN013_English: Use of Force and Rules of Engagement

The guard force may be faced within incidents which present a physical risk to themselves, as well as when protecting staff and visitors. Understanding how and when to apply force in a mature and well thought out manner is critical to ensure appropriate actions are taken which protects all parties. A failure to understand the escalation of force, and applying a ‘heavy handed’ approach could escalate the situation, result in unnecessary injuries – and it could lead to arrests, litigation risks and reputational damages. As such, all members of the Security Organization must understand – and practice - when and how to apply sensible and appropriate force.
