The guard force presents one of the few static elements of an office or work space, as such they play a critical role in identifying and responding to a fire. The Security Organization must be fully conversant as to where all fire-fighting and medical equipment is located, and how to use it. In addition, they will often be called upon to respond to the immediate emergency requirements of a fire, until primacy of command can be transferred over to expert first responders. It is often how the fire is managed within the first minutes of an incident which determines whether it is brought under control, and prevents injuries, loss of life, property damage and longer term disruptions to business.
